January 5, 2013: Scratch coat, sewer clean-out

Also, more wallboard...

The scratch coat is going on today.  They've prepped the house.

The mixer.  Everything is covered in plastic because the scratch coat material is like cement glue.

Outside the family room in the back is coated.

The south side.  The two story section was done first.

This is a close up of the corner treatment in preparation for the square corners.

Not the sharpest focus, but the left wallboard is QuietRock and the right is standard 5/8 wallboard.  You can see the sandwich in the QuietRock.

This is a shaper end-on image of the QuietRock.  Nearly the entire wall where the TV will be mounted is covered in this material.  Also, on the other side of the wall.

After much digging, the terra cotta for the sewer was found.  New terra cotta was installed for a clean out (as per code).

This is Matt gluing in the ABS sewer pipe from the house to an ABS fitting that is clampoed to the terra cotta.

The scratch coat is complete.  Alex and Cali are checking out how it looks wet, but it's now very hard.

The back of the house is almost covered.  I believe the are waiting for the glass block windows to be installed upstairs be fore completing the scratch coat around them.

Inside, the family room is boarded.  I got a sample of a 5 1/2 inch baseboard.  I think this is the right scale for this room.

This is Cali's room.  It's complete.  The QuietRock sections can be identified with the brown lines.

Alex's room is also boarded.

A picture of the blocking I added to the pocket door.  We should now be able to mount towel bars.  I just need to make sure my screws are never longer than 1 1/4 inches.  The blocking is 3/4 inches.  The wallboard is 5/8 inches.  So, 1 1/4 inch screws give me 1/8 inch margin.

January 3, 2013: Stucco prep and more wallboard

Evan doing some stucco prep work on the rear wall.  We're adding weep screed all around.  It's a good improvement.

Another picture of the sewer clean-out pit.  The diagonal pipe is the line from the house.  The vertical is the clean-out.  The two join with the sewer utility.  I believe this is supposed to be terra cotta.

Final prep for the stucco on the south side.  Looks good.

The family room is nearing completion of its wallboard.  The wall on the left is getting special QuietRock wallboard.  This is to minimize noise transfer to Cali's room.

Back to the rear wall.  They are moving quick.

They are tying in the wire.

We are getting 'square' corners on the stucco.  They attach special square corner wire for that purpose.

Every outside corner gets special treatment.  This guy was very careful in his work.  He used a level to make sure his corner wire was attached right!

January 1, 2013: More progress on the wallboard

The living room has been boarded.  This is from the dining area looking towards the front window.

This is the guest bedroom shower.  We're finalizing the tile.

Digging down to the sewer.  I think it's going to need to be changed out for modern materials.  It's way down.  Probably 8 feet.

December 29: Wallboard has started

A team of two started upstairs during between Christmas and new years.  They did the closet in the master bedroom first.

Back to the upstairs.  The wallboard is going up quick.  It's a very dusty job.  The snowy look to the picture is the wallboard dust floating in the room.

This is the master bathroom.  The shower is not yet done.

The wallboard is going over the internal sheer wall.  The studs to the right of the sheer wall were furred to match.

They've gone home for the day.  Getting very close to complete.

The shower has some green board up now.

A diversion... These are the vent stacks for the stove exhaust.  Two 8" pipes.

The wallboard team moved down stairs to the living room.  Ceiling first, I guess.

These guys move quick.  They are doing a good job.

December 23: Wallboard preparation

PG&E marked the location of the utilities on the ground. The yellow is the path of the gas line.

We added blocking in between studs in areas that we might be mounting art.  This is the stairwell.
