June 15: More skylights and a shower pan

Things are slowing a bit till we get our tile, granite and plumbing selected and purchased.  We're trying to stay on top of that.  We'll probably go look at stuff this weekend (in between cabana swim meet and softball tournament).

Some pics Cali took of the new stuff.  Some might be stuff that's already been shown.

This looks like the same as before.  Nothing new on the front.  I think Cali likes it.  We all do.

This is the entry hallway.  On the right is the living room.

Nothing new in this room.  We all like it though.  We're looking forward to the video setup.

The stairwell again.  On the right are the offices and guest room.  Beyond is the laundry room.

Something new!  The fixed skylight in the stairwell.

A crazy angle pic by Cali.  Looks like she's wearing the white softball pants and painted her nails in Diamonds colors.

This looks to be the new skylight in the master bath.

This is looking at the master bath through the wall of the master bedroom.  The new skylight can be seen.

And something more new.  The shower 'tub' in the guest bath.

June 8: Kitchen bay window and stairs

We've spent some time looking at and purchasing granite.  The girls bath room is done: Pearl Blue, or something like that.  The floors and shower walls are simulated marble.  The master bath is done: Some greenish swirly type.  The floors and shower tiles are still being selected.  The laundry is done: Kashmir Gold.  The floors are yet to be selected.

The bay window that's over the kitchen sink.

Placement of the 20amp electrical in the server room.

The engineered wood for the upper stairs.

Cali checking out the new stairs.

I think Cali likes the new stairs.

More pics of the stairs from the family room.

Hmmm.... this should be rotated counter clockwise.  The stairs from the upper floor.

The kitchen ceiling with the skylight hole.

June 2: Kitchen skylight and ceiling. Odd drains. HVAC return locations.

On Saturday, after Alex's backstroke event at the Santa Clara Invitational I went over to the house to check on things and do some digging I found Matt and Jose installing the kitchen skylight and working the ceiling.

This is to show the area above the family room ceiling.  We're trying to find a good place for the HVAC return.  We're thinking somewhere in that area.

This is the second floor on the landing in front of the master bedroom.  It's also the other side of the wall in the pic above.

The return might be in the wall somewhere here.

Matt and Jose did a lot of framing while I was there.  Matt also put up some joints for the 8' section.

This is the skylight box and the ceiling.

A close up of the ceiling where it changes from 8'6" to 8'.

Another view of the skylight box.  It needs a few more framing members.

This is what I did.  Dig up the odd drainage pipe.  I now know why it never drained. It really wasn't connected to anything.

May 30: Shoring up the old floor, wall in family room, more plumbing

Finally got to put up the shear wall in the family room.  The cutout for the entry to the stair/hall is done too.

A pic of the reverse side.

More plumbing.  This is the washer setup.

Alex's straight cove ceiling framing is done.  Nice job Matt!

On the Sunday of Memorial Day I jackhammered out the concrete sides of the old heater access.  The concrete pad was where the package unit was sitting.

The main electrical panel and the new tower.

The inside electrical panel.  There might be more than one inside, but it's not yet installed.

The sewer plumbing from the second floor is too large to fit in a 4" wall.  This wall will be furr'd out to accommodate.

Some pics from underneath.  This is under the two-story section.  New sewer and supply pipes are seen.

This is under the old single story section.  We're adding floor joists to bolster the support.  The original had 4x6 beams on 4' centers.

More pics of the additional floor joists.  The lighter colored wood is the new stuff.

More of the same.

They had to do some digging under the house for the new sewer plumbing.

May 20: More internal framing, more plumbing

This is the stair well.  There is a high window.  You can see the outline of the first story roof.

This is truly the main drain from the house.  This is the sewer pipe that exits the house under neath the foundation.  I'm not sure what the other pipe carry.  I suppose I'll ask.

This is the living room.  Not much new going on here.  The soffit is installed.  The clipped corner is where the piano will sit.

The coffer ceiling framing in Cali's room is complete.  Looks nice.

A picture of the corner detail of the coffer ceiling.

The coffer ceiling in Alex's room has been started.

A pic from kitchen.

This shows how the sunlight will be shining on the TV area this time of year.

May 19: Plumbing and eaves are going in and on.

The eaves in the front use tongue-in-groove boards.

The entrance has its eaves on too.

To save money, the eaves around the rest of the house were changed to plywood.

Plumbing for the half bath.

Looks like a sewer clean-out opening to the outside.

The laundry plumbing.

The main drain...

More main drain or stuff flowing too it.

The new south facing roof.  This is where the solar panels will be re-installed.  We're looking at the possibility to increase the size.

Matt and his crew.

The north facing roof.  Nothing but shingles go here.  Well, the skylights go here (a bit off to the right).

Yet another pic of the main room from the stairs area.  The horizontal section will be removed.  We've got enough wall to maintain contiguity.

Minor main drains flowing into the main drain.
